Initial Experiments :: R2 Unit

This track has been around in one form or another for many years for me.  It has never been properly called "finished" and released.  For me, this is me finally laying this track down for now.  I need to be done with it.

This started with a sample of a mistake.  I was trying to play something else, made a mistake.  The other song remains in a folder on a hard drive, but I copied the mistake to another thing, and started messing with it.  After awhile the organ line ended up again as a sample on my Maschine, and then finally into Ableton.

Most of the current form of this song, was discovered on the Maschine.  The drums especially were done with this.  These are just stock libraries, but really paired down, then combined with other kits.  Multiple midi parts  were doubled, but as I said, it did end up in Ableton.

For awhile, things were going very well, adn then I started to hit a processor ceiling on the laptop I was using at this time. I bused a ton of midi tracks down to audio, to try and save space.

Then a new PC, so some new things, try and revert to some older versions to "save" a few things, but at some point, you just have to stop.  I have put too much time into this song probably.

I can still hear how early this song is in my production learning curve.  There are so many things I would like to redo with new things that I have learned, but time to move on.

Song :: Dark

I sat on this song a long time.
Made real progress for a month, and then sat on it for awhile.

Today, I am forcing myself to be done with this and move on.
I think I was getting to micro-focused on parts of this song.

There is a lot of stuff in this song, that I like, and a few thing that I wish I could do again. oh well, right?

I could not get the sounds dialed in fully for what I wanted at the end of the song. The last little melody that starts on a string patch, and moves to a combination of sounds.

Song :: I Recognize Her

There is not much to this one. Was exploring some elements with Massive. Maschine, and then finally Ableton. This is another thing that I sat on forever, so really just want to be done with it I think.

Song :: Still Not Satisfried

This is a song of happy accidents again.

Also one, that started with a whole bunch of steam, and kind of petered out. I have started my usual process of sitting on a song, so I am releasing it today, just to be done with it.

So, was trying to find an effective means of practicing a muted thumb technique on the bass guitar, and the bass line came from that. The chords came next. When I began to put this into ableton, the melody elements was the first accident. Saving the file was the second. The percussion bits were the third. All of these in a row.

Drums I feel needed more work. I am not happy with the sounds, but again I need to stop sitting on songs.

The guitar parts were all played straight into Ableton through my PreSonus interface. I have had the 22VSL for some time now and I have been happy with it. Especially its portability. That has come in handy quite a few times.
