Song :: Still Not Satisfried

This is a song of happy accidents again.

Also one, that started with a whole bunch of steam, and kind of petered out. I have started my usual process of sitting on a song, so I am releasing it today, just to be done with it.

So, was trying to find an effective means of practicing a muted thumb technique on the bass guitar, and the bass line came from that. The chords came next. When I began to put this into ableton, the melody elements was the first accident. Saving the file was the second. The percussion bits were the third. All of these in a row.

Drums I feel needed more work. I am not happy with the sounds, but again I need to stop sitting on songs.

The guitar parts were all played straight into Ableton through my PreSonus interface. I have had the 22VSL for some time now and I have been happy with it. Especially its portability. That has come in handy quite a few times.

Mr. Bill

I have just discovered Mr. Bill the artist, and his you tube channel has quite a few Ableton videos on how to get better, so I am looking forward to the next track where I can incorporate some of these.

First Song

No, this is not the first song I wrote, but it is the first song I have completed since purchasing Ableton. The first song of 2020. I am calling this one finished, as I just am not 100% sure what to do next with this. Thus it is also the first song on a resolution to start finishing things, and not just endlessly tinkering with something, and not really doing much with it.

I learned a lot while working on this track. A lot of the quick shortcuts or keyboard combinations to move through Ableton quicker. Still lots to learn about FX, arranging, producing mixing, etc. The quest continues.............

I originally started this track a few years ago, when I was just tinkering around with the NI Maschine. It is greatly inspired by my good friend and drummer Jon Leavit who I have worked on many theater shows. The line that he inspired originally was the bass line, but I switched an instrument, moved it up a few octaves, and it becomes the melody. There is a delay on the melody, but many of the notes are not the delay, but me programming them in, and then lowering the volume to give the element of a decay.

In the past the Maschine has always been the quick way for me to create a drum part, while I work out the guitar or bass line to a song. This is the first song that I combined Maschine and Ableton, just to see what would happen. (and completed!)

Anyway, here is the first song I am putting out there in many years.
Hope you enjoy.

Digging the new DAW

Have to say, that I am really enjoying Ableton 10. It has been quite many months since I was able to do anything musically on the PC, so the program has been installed and not really used in the past few months. Anyway....

A couple of you tube videos, and I am off and running.
Thanks Antonio & Reverb

So far so good.
Ableton fits nicely with my previous experience with Sonic Foundry/Sony Acid & Native Instruments Maschine.

Hopefully some out put will be coming soon.

some more thinking time

Here is another article from The Trichordist. This one is quite long, and very distressing if you are an artist. I really like how he breaks it down into simple to understand terms. You are willing to pay a little extra to make sure your coffee is fair-trade, but you can't afford to support the artist you love by buying their CD.

Ouch!
